Leiko Fuseya is an artist based in Oslo, Norway, specializing in performing arts through scenography, costume design, and writing. She has created over 70 productions for theater, opera and dance.

Her journey as a theatre practitioner began with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 1996, followed by a Master of Fine Arts from Yale University’s School of Drama in 2003.

Between her degrees, she had the privilege of working with Ming Cho Lee, one of the most influential set designers in the USA. Under his mentorship for five years, she worked on over 40 productions at prestigious venues such as Arena Stage, Mark Taper Forum, Guthrie Theater, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Washington Shakespeare Theatre and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. This experience deeply influenced her design principles and creative approach.

She has designed numerous productions in the USA, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Chicago Opera Theater, which was chosen to represent American set designers at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in 2007. After moving to Norway, she has worked for many leading theaters, including Nationaltheatret, Riksteatret, Trøndelag Teater, Rogaland Teater, Den Nationale Scene, Hålogaland Teater, and Kilden Teater. Her design credits also include creations for Carte Blanche, Den Norske Opera & Ballett, GöteborgsOperan, OscarsborgOperaen, Aalborg Teater, and Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna.

Her work is driven by a commitment to visual storytelling. She aims to merge visual and textual storytelling by pushing the boundaries of traditional theatre and exploring alternative styles of performance. By doing so, she hopes to foster a new generation of theatre practitioners and audiences.
